Dear SACCI Member

You will have already received the proposed cross cutting projects for manufacturing developed by the Manufacturing Circle, on which we requested a mandate (sent on Monday 16 July). Since then, we have received the attached input from Government, which you will notice does not refer explicitly to manufacturing.  Government had verbally indicated that they wish to pursue a value chain approach to the following subsectors. As industry players are already engaged with Government, it is assumed that no purpose would be served by starting a new process.  It is therefore proposed that sector specific bilaterals be held with Government and any agreement that is reached can then be included in the final Jobs summit agreement.  If there is only partial agreement the Jobs summit agreement can be used to highlight that further work is required. Retail is also considered to be part of these value chains and should also indicate interest in participating in the bilaterals by nominating prospective participants.

Please also look at theme 3 on page 7 and provide comments.

Please confirm your agreement with this approach and provide nominations for the bilaterals by 26 July so that Government can be informed.
